Studio Youth-Topia is one of the Sustainable Design Option Studio 2 from SUTD/ ASD Pillar to explore multi-dimensional issues of sustainable design through a variety of lenses and at diverse temporal and spatial scales. Issues of resource efficiency, resilience, material and typological innovation, micro-climatic and site affordances, life-cycles and metabolism, and many other critical issues will serve as the projective context in which students will develop critical design solutions for small, medium and large scale architectures and urban interventions. In Youth-Topia, students from SUTD Term 8 and 9 were tasked to speculate the possibilities of placemaking at Somerset Youth Park; with the aim for the proposals to be designed by youth for the youth.
Youth-Topia’s microsite encapsulates the design process of a 14-week SUTD/ ASD Sustainable Design Option Studio during the summer of 2020. As part of the studio’s work to placemaking in Somerset Youth Park, visitors can embark on an interactive journey to learn and understand more about Singapore Somerset Area through the students’ research findings. Visitors are also further invited to explore and experience the visions and concepts of our student teams through a variety of representation techniques and Virtual Interactive Walkthroughs.
