The M.Arch students are required to undergo a 16-week mandatory internship in architectural firms either locally or overseas.
The typical internship period would be in the fall semester from mid-September to end December each year.
Purpose of Internships
The M.Arch Internship is an initiative that helps students in making connections between their study of architecture and the real world of practice by undertaking supervised work placements in architectural firms.
The internship exposes students to the work environment and gaining work experience in the industry. It provides opportunities for students to be involved in the conceptual stages of real architectural projects; and put into practice what they have learnt in their architectural studies.
These practice internships offer our students personal real world insights and exposures to actual working life, an experiential, foundation to their career choices, and the chance to build valuable business networks.
Benefits of Internships to Employers
Students can serve as a valuable resource for organisations to effectively bridge the gap imposed by the requirements of changing employment needs and fill immediate needs for labor sources.
Other advantages are:
- During the internship stint, employers are given the opportunity to assess potential candidates & to further develop their technical competence for possible employment after graduation.
- Students can provide professional or para-professional staff support on short or long-term projects.
- The M.Arch students have completed the BSc (Architecture and Sustainable Design), and will be able to contribute to the companies who host them.
- The programme enables the University to develop a solid relationship with industry and pave the way for joint projects of mutual interest.
