Gifu City Cultural Center

tying threads together
The philosophy of togetherness that is nurtured through mutual cooperation, typically via physical assistance. The spirit of yui is embodied well in the village of Shirakawa-go where the community is interconnected physically and emotionally. Despite the geographical isolation of Shirakawa-go, its people are tight knit. Ironically, by contrast, the densely populated Gifu city is socially more isolating, despite its interconnectivity.

Bringing the essence of yui into the city of Gifu, by creating authentic human connections through the intervention of the Civic Center. Taking reference from the spirit of yui present in activities enabled by the Nagara river as well as the park spaces within Gifu City.
