The progress of the cities appears to become a natural separation from nature. Work and nature seem to be the polar opposite in modern society. Yet, it can work wonders when the two are intertwined to form the public space of the future. Drawing inspiration from the relationship between Singapore herself and the famed Bukit Timah hill, where residents visit the rainforest reserve at the center of the city, this proposal is an attempt to create a green center, an artificial mountain-scape in the downtown area.
The Mountain-scape aims to capture the essence of the majestic landscape in its namesake. Natural mountains are seldom stand alone peaks, they often exist in mountain ranges that rise up high towards the sky. Some mountains are covered in lush green, others exhibit their weathered serenity through rocky cliffs and natural bridges. Through the usage of mass timber structure, this project marries the vibrancy of forest and lifeless yet powerful landscape to form the urban mountain in the heart of Singapore.
