In the future context when Singapore is heavily populated in terms of urban density, we are facing severe land scarcity. With the remaining green/available spaces occupied for specific uses that cannot be utilized for building, there is an need to find new ways for development.
With the idea of modularity and circularity in mind, we aim to design an adaptive and flexible workspace that creates new environment, yet not occupying extra lands. Therefore, we decided to design a system based on Symbiotic Architecture.
Symbiosis is defined as an interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association, usually to the advantage of both. Our proposed system will be flexibly deployed and climb onto existing buildings. Through the provision of new façade and extended floorplates, new moments are created at old spaces, bringing new life into the place.
Site Exploration & Analysis
Our Site is situated along Nicoll Highway at the Shaw Tower that will be redeveloped.
After completing the site analysis, we realized that the on site conditions has high traffic and is distanced from green and public spaces.
Therefore in our intervention we would like to provide recreational spaces and contribute by bringing in more green and public spaces on site.
Our Maison
Our Maison showcases high flexibly and adaptability so that it can potentially be assembled and disassembled for the ease of construction.

The ground level is developed for large and open spaces that is planned for holding exhibitions and big scaled activities.
We make use of the existing circulation system within Shaw Tower to access the various spaces that we have extended.
As we move up, we aim to provide spaces that are an extension to programs that are also within Shaw Tower. The programs ranges from open public and recreational activities to office and commercial uses.
