Lab Engineer/Lab Technician

The Lab Engineer/Lab Technician is responsible for the following:

  1. Procurement of equipment and machinery for the various labs
  2. Procurement of technical materials and supplies for course delivery
  3. Maintenance of equipment and machinery in the Lab:
    • operate, trouble-shoot and maintain equipment;
    • manage shops and work flow
    • ensure that safety guidelines are adhered to;
    • maintain the extensive arsenal of equipment, devices, and machines;
    • ensure that material supplies are appropriately stocked;
    • ensure the cleanliness of all the labs in ASD
  4. Schedule the machine usage with Main Fab Lab:
    • schedule, develop training and teaching materials;
    • deliver training and collaborate with faculty for curriculum support and development;
    • provide advice and assistance for all lab work carried out by students and faculty of ASD;
  5. Maintain the inventory listing in the Labs


In order to successfully accomplish these tasks, the successful candidates will:

  • have proficiency with 3D modelling software such as AutoCad, Grasshopper, SolidWorks;
  • be experienced in laboratory management;
  • know the operation of the most current CNC and rapid-prototyping equipment ranging from cutting edge robotic work-cells, 3D printers, CNC milling machines, laser cutters;
  • be familiar with traditional fabrication techniques using wood- and metal- working machines;
  • possess a degree/diploma in Architecture, Engineering Design or other relevant fields;
  • have at least 2 years of experience in supporting fabrication lab in an institute of higher learning;
  • and have strong interpersonal and organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to establish work priorities and carry out duties with minimal supervision.
